How many of you have heard about Open Access Data Centres, a carrier neutral data centre spread across Lagos, Nigeria, Kinshasha, DRC and also in the towns of Durban, Isando, Brackenfell and Rondebosch in South Africa? Open Access Data Centres or OADC in short has been established to transform the provision of data centre services in Africa, based on proven, long-standing data centre expertise, strong existing relationships with clients in Africa and well-established delivery capabilities across the continent.
Data centers have become a vital component of the digital economy, providing the necessary infrastructure to store, process, and manage large amounts of data generated by individuals, governments, and businesses. While many regions across the globe have established significant data center infrastructure, Africa has lagged behind in this regard. However, this is changing rapidly, with Africa emerging as a key destination for data center investment and development.Historically, Africa has had limited data center infrastructure, with just over 500 MW of total capacity in 2020, compared to over 5,000 MW in Europe. However, with the growing demand for digital services on the continent, global data center providers and local players are investing heavily in Africa. This investment is driven by the growing demand for digital services, such as online education, e-commerce, and social media, among the young and tech-savvy African population.Mobile connectivity is another key factor driving the
